So many good coffees
This is truly an amazing line up of coffees and a wonderful sign of the respect that producers, coops, importers and exporters have towards Grounds for Health in that they have donated some of their prime coffees. Coffees are available at the Annex in San Leandro, CA; Royal Warehouse in Oakland, CA; NY RPM Warehouse; Miami Colmar; and Royal Warehouse in Ft. Atkinson. For full details, please go to Stoneworks.
A little something to whet your appetite.

Pura Vida
I love this picture. I think it really captures the spirit of the auction-- producers giving back the fruits of their labor to support Grounds for Health's projects at origin. When Dietrich Eppe, of E&H Sucafe, heard about the auction; he coordinated with several cooperatives who all enthusiastically agreed to donate 5 bags each to the auction. In the picture below you can see Mr. Eppe and Jose Angel (of Coopepalmares) with the 35 bags of Costa Rican micro lots before they were loaded onto a container and shipped away to Oakland, CA.
The coffee arrived this week. We cupped them. We loved them.
Here's a look at what's available:
Costa SHB Palmares Especial pulped natural 100% honey, donated by Coopepalmares. Cup: Caramel sweetness and some strawberry acidity.
Costa SHB San Isidro Women-owned pulped natural, donated by Coopepalmares. Cup: Thick, butterscotch molasses and amaretto sweetness.
Costa SHB Garabito Tarrazu pulped natural 50% honey, donated by E&H Sucafe. Cup: Heavy, full body with sugarcane and milk chocolate.
Costa SHB Washed Dota Tarrazu, donated by Coope Dota. Cup: a classic Tarrazu, pure singular flavor, clean, excellent balance of medium acidity and body.
Costa SHB Chirripo, donated by CoopeAgri R.L. Cup: Good balance, smooth, brisk.
Costa La Pastora Tarrazu, donated by Coope Tarrazu. Cup: Classic, clean, bright, sweet, fresh flavor.
Costa Washed SHG Santa Rosa, donated by CIA Santa Rosa. Cup: Clean, bright, black olive nose.

$22000 and counting
With the first auction raising $22,000 for G4H, we are feeling very hopeful for the main auction on June 2. Roasters have realized that participating in this auction is really a no-brainer-- you get great coffee and every penny that you spend on that coffee goes directly to a worthy organization that helps coffee growers.
Producers and exporters continue to realize the impact that their donations can have for the coffee community and just about every day we have a new contributor come on board with the project. As the list continues to grow, we will continue to update the blog and soon you will be able to see the list at Stoneworks, as well.
All in all, this will be a bigger and better auction. We have more coffees available and at more locations (East Coast, Midwest, West Coast). We managed to iron out some of the kinks that come along with a new project... so smooth sailing from here on out. And hopefully, we will manage to raise a good chunk of change for Grounds for Health.
If you're interested in bidding on a lot, you will need to be a registered bidder with Stoneworks. Register early at Stoneworks & once you are approved to bid you can enter the practice auction to familiarize yourself with the bidding process.

Winter Produce

Coffee is produce. In the summer we find peaches and in the winter, pomegranates. Though we would love to see all the coffees which are being donated put together and sold in June, it is not really fair to the "pomegranate" producers. Some winter coffees are ready and, for the sake of quality, should be sold and roasted now.
The main auction is still scheduled for June 2nd and will include many great coffees generously donated from some of the world's best specialty coffee producers. But now that we are in winter, we want to celebrate the best of what the Southern Hemisphere coffee growers have to offer.
Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming Winter Grounds for Health Auction-- coming to you sometime in March!
